About the Author

I am an associate professor and Graduate Coordinator in the School of Writing, Rhetoric, and Technical Communication at James Madison University. I teach courses in writing and rhetoric and coordinate our master of arts and master of science programs in writing, rhetoric, and technical and scientific communication. In the past, I have served as composition director responsible for coordinating the first-year composition program at JMU.

My teaching and research interests include first-year writing pedagogy, digital and multimedia rhetorics, and alternative venues of academic and professional publishing.

I am the author and editor of several books on writing, rhetoric, and professional communication as well as of numerous book chapters and journal articles. My latest book, which I co-edited with Kirk St. Amant, is The Handbook of Research on Virtual Workplaces and the New Nature of Business Practices. It was released by IGI-Global in spring of 2008.

I am also co-editing, with Charlie Lowe, a series of open access composition textbooks called Writing Spaces: Readings on Writing.
